Largely based on the authorÕs Romanian past, Crossing the Styx recounts the tragedy of a betrothed couple who attempts to flee Romania during CeausescuÕs regime. Simina's father, a union leader, foments rebellion Solidarnosc style among his fellow miners which RaduÕs father, a Securitate colonel, brutally suppresses it. Doru escapes to the West while his friends remain behind. After the fall of communism, he returns to solve an eight-year-old mystery: Whatever happened to Simina and Radu? Whatever happened to the woman he loved?

ÒWe have talked a lot about [Michel] Houellebecq and [Bret Easton] Ellis, but hardly about Dan Lungu and Corneliu Mitrache, authors who also rock.Ó

-Technikart magazine, 2005 November issue

ÒThe more we advance in MitracheÕs novel, the more we succumb to the storyÕs emotional roller coaster... A youthful and timely prose that needs to be discovered... very touching and sensual, lyrical and lucid.Ó

ÒMagnificent and breathless... The hero's trip back to Romania is extremely powerful, of great dramaturgy. Ò
